Dangote Cement Plc is the largest cement producer in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a total production capacity of 52.0 million tonnes per year across ten countries. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, the company is a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited, founded by Aliko Dangote in 1981. Dangote Cement is publicly traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol DANGCEM.

Operations and Footprint

Dangote Cement operates in Nigeria and across several African countries, including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, Zambia, South Africa, Congo, and Sierra Leone. In Nigeria, the company has three major plants:

Obajana Plant: Located in Kogi State, it is the largest cement plant in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a capacity of 10.25 million tonnes per year.

  • Ibese Plant: Situated in Ogun State, it has a capacity of 6 million tonnes per year.

  • Gboko Plant: Located in Benue State, it has a capacity of 4 million tonnes per year.

In Tanzania, Dangote Cement operates a 3 million tonne per year plant in Mtwara, which is the largest cement factory in the country.

Financial Performance

As of 2024, Dangote Cement reported a revenue of ₦3,580.6 billion, marking a 62.2% increase from the previous year. The company’s EBITDA stood at ₦1,382.0 billion, reflecting a 256.0% rise.

Strategic Vision

Dangote Cement aims to make West and Central Africa self-sufficient in cement and clinker production, with Nigeria serving as the main export hub. The company has adopted an “export to import” strategy, leveraging Nigeria’s abundant limestone resources to supply neighboring countries lacking such raw materials. In 2020, Dangote Cement commissioned export terminals in Apapa and Onne, facilitating clinker shipments to West and Central Africa.
