Mlele District Council is a local government authority located in the Katavi Region of western Tanzania. Established in 2012 after being carved out from Mpanda District, Mlele encompasses an area of approximately 6,981 square kilometers and had a population of 118,818 as per the 2022 census .
Administrative Structure and Services
The administrative headquarters of Mlele District Council is situated in Inyonga. The district is subdivided into 23 wards, including Ikuba, Ilela, Inyonga, Itenka, Kapalala, Kasansa, Kasokola, Kibaoni, Litapunga, Machimboni, Magamba, Majimoto, Mamba, Mbede, Mtapenda, Mwamapuli, Nsekwa, Nsimbo, Sitalike, Ugalla, Urwira, Usevya, and Utende .
Mlele District Council oversees various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, livestock, natural resources, and infrastructure development. Notably, the district has been recognized for its successful peanut farming initiatives, with plans to introduce peanut shelling machines in every ward to boost agricultural productivity .
