Key Initiatives and Projects

Tanganyika District Council is actively involved in various development projects, including:

  • Carbon Trading: The council plans to engage in carbon trading, aiming to generate over TZS 60 billion annually by conserving and managing forest areas such as Tongwe West and East, Nkamba, and a forest corridor covering a total of 748,871 hectares.

  • Land Certification: Under the Land Tenure Improvement Project (LTIP), the council is working on issuing Certificates of Customary Right of Occupancy (CCROs) to enhance land tenure security for residents.

  • Environmental Conservation: Efforts are underway to protect wildlife corridors and forest reserves, including the Lyamgoloka corridor connecting Katavi and Mahale National Parks.
